Dr. Whitlark (Jim) has been a professor of literature at Texas Tech University for more than 26 years (and has recently taken on the role of Associate Chair of that departmenr), and Lynn has worn several hats, including writer, corporate trainer, and management consultant. Additionally, however, both of us are artists. Jim works in several drawing media, pen & ink, encaustics, collage, and mixed media; while Lynn works almost exclusively in water media/mixed media as well as a long history in hand made and decorated dolls. Besides artworks, Lynn is also interested in color, pigment, and paint -- and gathers natural pigments for paintmaking, creates her own binders and mediums (the liquids mixed with pigment to make paint, and the liquids mixed with paint to achieve specific effects), and grinds more than 125 pigment powders to create paints with a variety of attributes and unusual characteristics. These paints and mediums have been available locally to friends, family, and other artists (Lynn's mother has been an award winning artist and art teacher for over 45 years, working in watercolor, oils, pastels, and porcelain.) We all work a great deal with water media (water based paints, as opposed to acrylic polymer based acrylic paints, or oil/resin based paints which require solvents and often hazardous/poisonous componants.) In an effort to create a lightfast, permanant, safe, and non-toxic pallette, we have done our best to research all the componants for our paints, mediums, binders, painting surfaces, and the variety of other componants which go into an artist's studio.
