| The Emergency Quarantine Box --Kids Home to Avoid the Flu? Keep Them Busy! We're not into being the bearers of bad news or panic, and yet it appears that we are looking at a "when" rather than an "if" for this coming bird-flu epidemic or pandemic. Many US cities are already putting plans and supplies in place to keep us as safe and snug as possible if the worst happens and we end up with a 6-8 week quarintine in parts of the country. This really is not a drill.... A couple of our best customers came to us with a request for an emergency box for their kids -- something to help them through the many days locked in the house with just their parents to keep them company.... (although we hope and assume we will all still have minimum services like telephones and electricity... so they can easily spend time on the phone with friends. and hours with DVDs, videos, computer games and their music. Below you will find a list of toys especially suited to long days in the house. We've tried to help you find the toys for all ages, both sexes, and all kinds of interests. As the owners of Purciful's have a son in disaster management, friends in emergency medicine and at the CDC (Center for Disease Control,) and a baseline of experience with the Am. Red Cross, we have also included the list we and our extended families all use to stock the pantry, garage, and medicine cabinet so each of us can take care of ourselves for this extended stay in our own four walls. One last note -- we've heard a lot of folks saying, "if it comes, it comes -- we'll just wait and see," or other allusions to Mother Nature crying wolf. Which actually sounds a whole lot like what our friends in New Orleans had been saying. This really isn't an "IF" it comes kind of thing. And it's a nasty and murderous flu that no person on the planet has any immunity to. Toys to stay busy and books to read should be on your list if you have kids, but there are many many more important things you need to be doing now -- so heads up, America. Stay calm. Be prepared.
