BY THE EDITORS OF KLUTZ
This book is a thorough treatment of footbag, a sport that's taking over schoolyards and campuses everywhere. Footbag is like catch with one catch -- you can?t use your hands. Once you?ve mastered The Footbag Book ?s three basic moves, you?re ready to play. Footbag can be relaxed and cooperative, or intense and competitive. Play with a group or solo, indoors or out. And, since all the sporting equipment required fits in your pocket, it?s entirely portable and available to play anytime. It is, in short, a kick.
Packed with essential tips and techniques, The Footbag Book comes complete with a colorful, hand-crocheted footbag. All you need to bring is a willing pair of feet.
Suggestions from Klutz for FootBagers:
1. Locate your feet. If you thought those boots were made just for walking?think again. It's time to get those puppies performing some fancy footwork.
2. Shift your weight. Practice standing on one foot, and then the other. This is an important step --you're going to be doing a lot of balancing in this game.
3. Let it drop. Toss the footbag up in front of you and let gravity go to work. Pay attention to how the bag drops; this'll help when you're ready to start kicking.
4. Be observant. It's time to develop your foot-eye coordination. We?re sure that you've got the hand-eye thing down; now your feet have some catching up to do.
5. Bend your ankle. Turn your ankle so that you create a flat surface, imagine balancing a glass of water on the instep of your lifted foot.
6. Take it easy. The kicking motion is much slower than you may think. As the footbag drops (you should be familiar with this step), pop the footbag up with the inside of your foot.
7. Be consistent. Keep your pops steady so you won?t have to keep retrieving the footbag from your neighbor's dog.
8. Take frequent breaks. You may need to stretch out your legs and take a moment to congratulate yourself --this is hard work!
9. Patience, patience, patience. Need we say more? Okay. Practice, practice, practice.
10. Put manners aside. Never say "sorry" for a miss-kick. Now don?t just stand there with your two feet on the ground --start footbagging!
Age Level: 8 and up.
